Short Andalusian Stories (2020)
Design, illustration and layout
In collaboration with Macnulti publishing, we developed this didactic book with which to help the little ones to develop a feeling of curiosity about history.
The book is packed with fun and dynamic illustrations that add an extra dimension to the work. Additionally, we designed several activities with the double objective of providing fun and supporting the contents of the book.
At the proposal of Cadigenia S.L and with the artistic direction of Margarita Corleone, we made a series of illustrations for the exhibition ‘Detecting Sexual Violence’.
These illustrations are designed to send a concise and clear message showing the different types of violence that women are subjected to. The dashboards are backed with information and data that help to better understand the topic.
AIMED is a platform that seeks to help exchange students find the most suitable center to carry out their studies. In it you will find both academic information and details on prices and accessibility of the city where the center is located.
For this project we made two explanatory comics, one aimed at teachers and another at students, which encourage the use of the tool. In addition, we made an animation with the illustrations of the comic, in English and Spanish, for dissemination purposes on social networks. And we complement all this with a pack of stickers with useful phrases to be used on WhatsApp and Telegram.
Within the framework of the non-sexist and non-warlike game and toy campaign of the Chiclana City Council, Cadigenia S.L. proposes to us the design of a children's story.
We develop the character of Choqui, the protagonist of this children's story that will become the center of the campaign, from the concept sketches and the text proposed by Susana Ginesta.
Following the line of Science in Comic, this is a scientific dissemination project carried out for the University of Cádiz that narrates what the Esteem3 research project consists of using a simple, direct and a very visual language above all.
It consists of two boards with versions both in Spanish and English. The work is aimed at a non-specialized public and has been carried out under the supervision of the scientific and research team both at the Spanish and European level.
Campaign for the reduction of plastics in the Carnival of Cádiz.
Por un Carnaval ReVerde is a proposal by The Pilot Dog to provide an alternative to one of the main residues of the Cádiz carnival: single-use plastic cups.
To reduce the amount of single-use plastic cups we put into circulation reusable ones with an attractive design linked to the Cádiz Carnival. We carry out the development of the image and the advertising campaign of this proposal since 2017, without interruption.
A story about solidarity with a double objective: to promote a series of values among the little ones and to fight against hunger. An adventure divided into four installments whose sales profits were allocated to the Food Bank of Cádiz.
On this occasion, due to the solidarity nature of the initiative, our work went beyond making the illustrations and we also collaborated with Arancha Morales, author of the text, in the development of the story. Thus, we started our entire creative process and gave shape to two characters, Sonia and Miguel, who break stereotypes a bit and who spin the four stories of this story.
For all this, our involvement was absolute in this initiative aimed at boys and girls between 6 and 11 years old and in which the Diario de Cádiz and the Diario de Jerez also collaborated.
After the success of "Science in comics", the UCC + i of the University of Cádiz entrusted us with a second project. This time the challenge consisted in designing, illustrating and assembling the itinerant exhibition Sea Monsters, co-financed again by FECYT and the CEI-mar. Based on a study conducted by Arturo Morgado, Professor at the UCA (Department of Modern, Contemporary, American and Art History), this exhibition was composed of 12 panels giving life to known mythological beings and placing them in terms of their story in popular culture. The success of this new challenge led to the exhibition touring the four campuses of the UCA and Labimar. Furthermore, the exhibition formed part of the II Scientific Sea Fair, held in May 2016, at the Castillo de San Sebastián in Cádiz, sponsored by the University of Cádiz and the CEI-Mar.
The main objective of this project was to promote the diffusion of our heritage by encouraging involvement, knowledge acquisition and enjoyment of our rich natural and cultural legacies (represented by the coastal salt pans in this case) while promoting sustainable cultural tourism.
In order to achieve these goals the Pilot Dog designed more than 50 illustrations, cooperating also in the writing of contents, reviewing texts and designing the layout of a didactic manual and two informative brochures (which are available to download at the Atlántida Medio Ambiente website). Working within a tight schedule (only 4 weeks from commission to delivery), one of the highlights of this project was the opportunity to join forces with the Atlántida technicians team, which invaluable assistance helped to deliver a great project within the stablished deadlines while working in a great atmosphere of enthusiasm and cooperation. A wonderful experience without any doubts!
With an informative vocation, this project is coordinated by the Unidad de Cultura Científica y de la Innovación (UCC+i) and co-financed by the Campus de Excelencia Internacional del Mar (CEI•Mar) and the Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, through the Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología (FECYT) and the UCA (Universidad de Cádiz). Through 16 comic-type panels this itinerary exhibition explains the involvement of the University of Cádiz in many European-level research projects. Bringing science to the public, explaining complex projects on coastal management and security, climate change, migrations, pain management centers or European research networks, in a friendly and approachable manner for all. What a task! A very exciting challenge on understanding and communication between all of those involved in the project (twenty researchers from the UCA contributed with content while the panels were designed, assembled and edited by The Pilot Dog), whose results went beyond the initial success of the campaign.
An advertising campaign carried out during the famous Carnival of Cádiz. For this project we worked side by side with one of the most renown advertising agencies in the country, Proximity Madrid, for one of the most recognized brands in Andalusia: Cruzcampo. While Proximity Madrid developed the campaign, The Pilot Dog designed and developed the illustrations. Seven illustrations that make reference to locations and features of one of the most famous festivities in Spain, imbuing in them the peculiar Gaditan point of view and our way of communicating.
Contextualising the Aponiente Restaurant environment.
For this project, The Pilot Dog designs, writes and illustrates three interpretative panels. Its purpose was to explain the importance of the natural and cultural heritage of the area that houses Aponiente, the new restaurant of the famous chef Angel Leon. The first panel explains how a tidal mill works and talks about the characteristics of Molino del Caño, where Aponiente is located. The second one explains how a coastal salt pan (like the one that surrounds the restaurant) works and the natural wealth it provides as a transformed marsh. The third one “Aponiente dreams” talks about how the chef intends to perform his work while enhancing the area where the restaurant is located through the sustainable use of its resources.
If you have a dream (2015)
Creation of versatile characters.
Example of the multiple illustration and advertising jobs, made for the Cátedra de Emprendedores of the University of Cádiz. The Pilot Dog modelled the characters and designed the posters.
Arrobadas. Dos mujeres a la carta (2013)
Illustration and Editorial Design.
Arrobad @ s. Dos mujeres a la carta is a project born between two friends (Nené and Lita). Two women who exchanged mails for a year and finally decided to publish them in a beautiful and hilarious book. The Pilot Dog ran the entire editorial process, from design and layout, to administrative procedures, passing - of course - for the creation and development of the illustrations. These caricature like illustrations are based directly on passages of the book and show us the protagonists in different scenes of their "everyday life".
Mozafir. The emotional landscape of two shores (2013)
Illustration and Editorial Design of a Hispanic-Moroccan project.
An educational project devised by ERA, consisting of a book and a board game. The aim on this project was to educate children in the value of the natural environment of the Reserva de la Biosfera Intercontinental del Mediterráneo, through the adventures of a stork called Mozafir. With a clear ludic, didactic and informative vocation, The Pilot Dog created the designs and illustrations for this project. A cooperative venture between Spain and Morocco, the material is available in Spanish and Arabic and it can be downloaded freely from the website of the Consejería de Medio Ambiente y Ordenación del Territorio de Andalucía.
Carnaval de Cádiz for children is a project that we carried out for and with Ediciones D`Fâbula. A book intended for the little ones that collects the ins and outs of this festival, differentiating between the carnival of the contest (yes, there is a contest!) and the street carnival. With text from Iván Cano and more than 60 illustrations developed digitally by Juan José Domínguez, this book offers children a fun journey full of activities and games that helps them learn, understand and enjoy to the fullest the peculiarities of the Gaditan carnival.
The Great Adventure: Cádiz 1812 (2012)
Illustrations for the work of writer José Joaquín Rodríguez.
An adventure book in which the reader can choose the actions of the protagonists. It was commissioned by the Diputación de Cádiz to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Constitution of 1812, the first ever written Spanish constitution, promulgated in Cádiz that year. This book was written by our good friend and History teacher Dr José Joaquín Rodríguez Moreno while The Pilot Dog designed and illustrated it.
Educating from the root.
A children's story for an education in values.
The Pilot Dog participated in Educando desde la raiz, a project of the NGO Madre Coraje. Our task was to illustrate pedagogical material focused on social inclusion and solidarity for the little ones. For this project we opted for a drawing of clear lines, with simple characters and bright colors. We completely developed it in vector drawing, very versatile when it comes to offering it both digitally and on paper. The final product was published on recycled paper and presented inside a cardboard case, using also recycled materials.
